Nusenda members and employees support children In New Mexico and West Texas with toy drive

Albuquerque, N.M. – Nusenda Credit Union recently partnered with UNM Children’s Hospital, Jardin de los Niños, and Children’s Miracle Network El Paso this holiday season to help bring joy to kids in need. Nusenda members and employees across New Mexico and West Texas participated in the three-week toy drive, donating toys and funds to bring holiday cheer.

From November 25 through December 16, Nusenda branch locations served as drop-off sites, where Nusenda staff and members donated new, unwrapped toys for children of any age. This year, over 1,000 toys were collected and nearly $1,000 in funds were donated!

"Every year, our staff and members demonstrate their commitment to our communities through volunteerism and other initiatives like our school supply drive, book drive, and coat drive," said Nusenda President and CEO Joe Christian. “We are grateful for the toy donations this year and hope they can bring comfort to families and deliver a little joy to children with health challenges.”

“It really means so much to the families here at UNM Children's Hospital to have Nusenda provide gifts to the children we see here from all across the state of New Mexico,” said Ana Bacon, Director of Child Life at UNM Children’s Hospitals. “It provides a much-needed comfort and distraction from the things they are having to go through during this Holiday season. We are so grateful for their partnership!”

UNM Children’s Hospital is the only Children’s Miracle Network hospital in New Mexico and serves more than 60,000 kids each year. The specialists at the hospital and various clinics around the state provide the most advanced and personalized pediatric care.

Jardin de los Niños is a non-profit organization in Las Cruces that is designated as a Trauma-Informed Care Center. The team provides early childhood education, therapeutic intervention, and comprehensive services to homeless and near-homeless children from the ages of six weeks to 10 years, and their families.

El Paso Children’s Hospital is a leading pediatric hospital serving West Texas and Southern New Mexico. With over 20 specialties led by expert physicians, the hospital provides advanced, compassionate care close to home. It has reduced the need for families to seek treatment outside the region by 85% and now serves one in five children in El Paso.

Nusenda supports hundreds of programs and organizations that are working to make a positive difference in New Mexico. In addition to the toy drive, Nusenda gives back through its Community Rewards grants, financial education, sponsorships, volunteer projects, and more.
